Spanish Steps In Rome Provide The Most Exquisite And Elegant Way To Enjoy The Beauty Of Rome

One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of Rome is to relax on Spanish Steps. They are an excellent instance of Roman Baroque Style, a popular kind of architecture. There are a lot of terraces and vistas that make up the Spanish Steps. Most importantly, they are a link between the lower part of Piazza di Spagna and the upper part of piazza Trinita dei Monti.

The idea of building the steps was conceived when the concept of a connection between the Trinita dei Monti church and the triangular Spanish square was mooted in the 17th century. This was a time when the French envisioned a replica of King Louis XIV at the point where the staircase originated at the top. The vision remained a vision for the Pope did not agree to it.

The unique design and beauty of the Spanish Steps provided inspiration to poets and painters. Their gathering at the Spanish Steps gave way to a host of women who had dreams of being models for the creations of the artists. All this had a magnetic effect on rich Romans and travelers through Rome. This way, Spanish Steps ended up being a crowded place where people from all walks of life congregated. Spanish Steps retains its value as the most popular meeting point.

The Spanish Steps would probably have never come into existence had it not been for the French diplomat Étienne Gueffier and his generous donation of 20,000 scudi, the popular currency in Italy.

At the base of the Spanish Steps, there is a museum with stuff belonging to the English poet John Keats. The museum marks the house in which he lived.
